< Br > Since 1396, the city is the leader political, judicial and military place of the fief of the Rohan's family. To confirm the presence of the family of Rohan with central Brittany, Jean II de Rohan decides, in 1485, to build in Pontivy a powerful castle.
The city of Pontivy is so develop around this impressive castle of military architecture. This massive fortress, of about 90 metres on 75, possesses two big towers.The front looking onto the inner courtyard was modified during the 17 and 18th centuries. Its first vocation of defence was accompanied with an effort concerning the environment because the fortress was also of use as place of residence to the Lords and to their families.
